Edward P. H. Nash

Managing Director and Head, Strategic Merchant Banking and Corporate Development
Ted Nash joined CIBC in 1994 and presently runs Strategic Merchant Banking and Corporate Development and is a member of the Wholesale Bank's Management Committee. He oversees a portfolio of subordinated debt and equity across a wide range of industries, with a book value exceeding $1.5 billion. His group is also involved in evaluating and executing strategic investments and acquisitions.
For most of his career with CIBC, Mr. Nash worked as a mergers and acquisitions adviser, leading the firm's market-leading M&A practice from 2005 to 2009. He has worked on dozens of transactions across sectors, with closed or announced values aggregating over US$150 billion.
From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Nash was a Senior Vice President with CIBC Retail Markets, serving as a member of its Management Team and of the bank's Senior Leadership Team. He created and led a strategic analytics group focused on uncovering value through the application of quantitative techniques to evaluate competitiveness, revenue-enhancement. asset-protection, and productivity initiatives.
In 2001, Mr. Nash founded a satellite merchant banking office in London for which he developed the unit's business and investment strategy and built up a successful portfolio of direct equity holdings.
Prior to starting with CIBC, Mr. Nash was employed by a leading international management consulting firm in Boston and Caracas. While there, he concentrated on developing strategic and organizational solutions for industrial and service clients to maximize shareholder value. He also worked as a merchant and commercial banker earlier in his career in Toronto as well as a financial custody investigator in Brussels.
Mr. Nash graduated as a Palmer Scholar (top 5%) from The Wharton School's MBA programme in 1991 while receiving an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts and Sciences. He was designated a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in 1988 and received a BComm from Queen's University in 1985.
