  1. What is the typical skill set that you look for in a candidate?

    Each of our jobs requires a different skill set, however, we do look for the following core attributes in all candidates: a) ability to work in a team; b) basic understanding of the financial services industry; c) demonstrates initiative; d) self starter, ability to learn quickly; e) agile and adaptable; f) results oriented; g) solid work ethic.

  2. Do you hire international students? If so, does CIBC help candidates get their work permit?

    Yes, we do hire international students at CIBC. In Canada and the U.S., securing the required work permit is the responsibility of the successful candidate. In Europe, we will assist with work permits for successful candidates.

  3. Does CIBC have global opportunities?

    Yes, sometimes there are global opportunities for campus hires. These opportunities would be posted on our campus website (www.cibcwm.com/canadagrads).

  4. How does the Trading Floor program work?

    Our Trading Floor program provides recent graduates of undergraduate programs in business or mathematics with an opportunity to gain applicable experience in a number of areas on our Equities and Fixed Income & Currencies trading floor. Candidates are hired to support specific needs in growing businesses but will have the opportunity to complete learning rotations in up to 4 other trading floor businesses during the first 6 months of employment. These rotations are supplemented by a 4-week, in-classroom orientation and learning program.

  5. What type of training do you provide?

    You will have access to training through the following channels: Campus Recruitment Orientation (summer and full time); Global Tuition Assistance Program for Full-Time employees - funding provided by CIBC for job-related training, approved by managers; rotational programs and job-specific training.

  6. What should I highlight in my cover letter and resumé?

    Tailor your cover letter and resumé specifically to the job you are applying for, highlighting your: a) interest in the role/area; b) skills/transferable skills you possess that relate to the job you are applying to; c) relevant work experience; and d) extracurricular activities including volunteer work and association memberships.

  7. Do I need any related designations to work within the wholesale banking business at CIBC?

    Some positions require specific designations (please refer to specific job postings), while others view certain designations as an asset but not a requirement.

  8. Are there co-op/internship opportunities within the wholesale banking business at CIBC?

    The majority of co-op/internship opportunities fall within our summer recruitment program. Based on specific business needs, there may be other co-op/internship opportunities throughout the year. These would be posted at select co-op career centres.

    In the U.S. and Europe, we do not offer a formal internship program - preferring instead to recruit as and when the business need arises.

  9. How long does the campus recruitment process take (i.e., from application to offer/decline)?

    The recruitment process typically takes a maximum of two months from application to offer/decline.

  10. Are there job opportunities across Canada?

    Yes, there are job opportunities across Canada for select businesses. These posting will be on our website and typically include positions in Investment Banking.

  11. CIBC does not post job opportunities at my school. Can I still apply?

    Yes, you can apply directly online.
